Car Seat Protector for Airplane

On our first trip cross country with baby, we juggled lots of extra luggage including a car seat. Just thinking about how much of a beating checked luggage must typically withstand, I wanted to make sure I did everything possible to help protect our son’s car seat.

You can purchase a cover like this one, but they didn’t carry anything like this at our local stores and I didn’t have enough time before our trip to wait for the shipping time. So I wrapped our big car seat in a beach towel for a little extra padding and protection and then squeezed it into an old blue laundry bag secured with a drawstring. (It was the laundry bag my husband used in college. Don’t you love when you can re-purpose an old item into something useful?) When checking in at the airport, many airlines offer free bags to help protect the car seat which we gladly accepted and placed on top of our “homemade” solution.

As you can see in the picture, there was some black grease and several holes on the outer bag. We sure were glad we used a car seat cover! A clean, undamaged car seat makes for happy travelers and definitely works for me.
