As I was checking out at Target this week, I was pleasantly surprised. They packed my purchase into my reusable shopping bag and promptly scanned a barcode that paid me $.05! I heard rumors that Target was planning to start paying people to use recyclable shopping bags rather than the disposable plastic variety, but I didn’t realize they already started this program at my local store. They are even advertising this on the bottom of the receipt! “Get 5 cents off every time you use a reusable bag”
Way to go Target! Hopefully this is another small step toward reducing all that excess plastic waste. Next time you make a trip to Target, take a reusable shopping bag and see if you get paid for being a little greener too!
